Freeman & Whittington Wedding
Alexandra Luttrell-Freeman and Kyle Whittington were born and raised on opposite sides of the country—Alexandra in Las Vegas, Nev., and Kyle in Memphis, Tenn.—but, as fate would have it, both moved to Jonesboro to attend Arkansas State University.
In August 2010, the two met at a college marching band camp and eventually fell into the same group of friends where they played ultimate Frisbee together, were in the same service band coed sorority, Tau Beta Sigma, and even had one or two classes together during the fall semester.
“By November we were really good friends and, with having very similar schedules, sometime in January-March we became inseparable best friends,” Alexandra said.
The couple began dating on April 11, 2011 after a district trip with TBS.
As a couple, Alexandra and Kyle’s personalities balance each other out, Alexandra said, adding that their personalities are “kind of the less extreme versions of Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter.”
“We are a typical introvert-extrovert relationship, which we learned together how to balance our needs,” Alexandra said. “My mom used to joke that they sent me to a rural area just to find myself a city boy anyway.”
Alexandra admits that Kyle isn’t a very romantic person, but said she told him that she wanted a romantic marriage proposal.
“I actually ruined his first plans,” she said. “I made the second one difficult, as well.”
After weeks of Alexandra begging to go to the park, the couple both had a rare day off together and were finally able to make the trip. Kyle had plans to have
a picnic at the park, where he would propose, but Alexandra said, being unaware that he was planning anything, that she’d kept “bugging him” and ruining his plans.
They finally found a park bench on which to enjoy their meal, and when Alexandra sat down, Kyle got down on one knee.
“Apparently he didn’t say anything he wanted to, but I remember it being incredibly sweet anyway,” Alexandra recalled. “We had a beautiful view of the lake at Craighead Park with snow-covered ground.”
Alexandra graduated with a degree in forensic science and a degree in biology, currently working at Panera Bread and Target while boosting her resume to apply for graduate school, where she plans to study genetic counseling. Kyle graduated with a degree in biology with a minor in Spanish and is pursuing his Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. He is also employed at Panera Bread and Target while trying to obtain teaching jobs around Arkansas to teach secondary biology.
The big day: March 19, 2016.
Best Man and Maid of Honor: Nathan Cooper was Best Man and Natalie Sousa was Maid of Honor.
The location: Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens.
The reception: The pavilion at Garvan Woodland Gardens. The guests were served drinks, cheese, crackers, and fruit while they were invited to walk the gardens, then enjoyed panko Parmesan crusted chicken, twice baked potato casserole, garlic green beans, salad, garlic bread, tea and water, served by Dinner’s Ready. Cascading rosettes in shades of green with a cream base were used for the “fancy cake,” and for the “fun cake,” the couple had a Redwolf cake since they met at ASU, a Grizzlies cake, and a lightening bolt for Alexandra’s love of the Harry Potter books.
The look: The colors were greens, browns and natural tones. The women wore green and the men wore green and brown ties. Alexandra’s cascading bouquet had a single red rose to represent one love and yellow mini-callas to represent the season. The men wore gray Joseph Abboud suits from Men’s Warehouse.
The dress: A Belle dress from Alfred Angelo’s Disney line.
Most unforgettable moment: “For me it was when I got to where Kyle was at the altar. My bridesmaids all thought he would cry and I really didn’t; he is just not a cryer. When I got close enough to see, his eyes were very red and watery,” said Alexandra. “I had not gotten to see any part of Alexandra’s ensemble, except for her shoes, for the wedding — not hair, makeup, or most of the dress. My most unforgettable moment was how beautiful she was when I first saw her walking down the aisle toward me,” said Kyle.
Honeymoon: The couple is spending their first few days in New Orleans enjoying the local atmosphere, then going on a four-day cruise to Cozumel, Mexico.
