When a water leak forced Wayne and Joan Rice to replace all of the wood flooring and carpet in their home, the couple chose to look on the bright side, seeing the misfortune as a “blessing” instead of a curse.

“It turned out to be a blessing because now we have gorgeous tile floors which perfectly match our Southwestern colors and styles,” said Joan.

Wayne and Joan describe their style tastes as “Southwestern,” adding that the beauty of the Southwest, with its red rock formations, many hued sunsets, great mountains and canyons and the art and colors of Native America décor are reflected throughout their home.

“We love the earthy tones found in nature,” said Joan. After the water leak occurred, the couple employed The Floor Store to guide them through their home makeover, their only request being to make their home “shine.”

The kitchen, living and dining rooms and master bedroom and bathroom were made over. A new hearth was built in front of the fireplace and tumbled stone was applied to reface it. The kitchen was updated with a beautiful, new granite countertop and tumbled stone backsplash inset with glass tile accents.DSC01550

“With the help and expert advice from The Floor Store, we chose the exact materials — granite and tile — that have greatly enhanced the look and feel
of our home,” said Joan. “The professional and highly trained staff
at The Floor Store make remodeling a pleasure.”

Wayne was a physical therapist who retired in 1999 after 40 years of practice and Joan had a career in retail sales. The couple have a total of seven children, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Joan said their love of traveling has prevented them from adding any pets to the family, but they would love to someday adopt a German Shepherd for Wayne and a small lap dog for Joan.

The couple’s favorite travel spot is Sedona, Ariz., and their other hobbies include reading, watching old western movies, doing yoga and exercising and hitting estate sales to find “treasures” to use as accent pieces in their home.

“We love being in a home that has our mark on it as far as color and style,” Joan said. “We truly enjoy being in the space that speaks to us with warmth and comfort, as well as beauty.”
